See scan - perfect condition. This is an extremely scarce and rare Communist era Bulgarian medal. The medal was instituted in 1981 and was supposed to be awarded to highest officials and foreigners in order to celebrate the 1300 years anniversary jubilee since establishment of the State of Bulgaria in year 681. This was the first preliminary issue of the medal, but its design was changed almost immediately and therefore never went into public. Only 10 pieces were ever minted by the Bulgarian State Mint and so far this is the 2nd piece known to be offered for sale and the other piece is in a private collection. Most likely the remaining 8 pieces were destroyed. The medal is listed in the Prof. Pavlov's Catalogue as number #700 and #701 and is one of the rarest medals from that period. Obverse of medal shows a large lion facing left with text on bottom saying 1300 YEARS BULGARIA and 13 stars above lion's head and reverse shows the dates 681 and 1981 with a wreath in between. This is an exceptionally rare collector piece and one of the rarest Bulgarian medals never offered for sale before.
