Item description: * See scan - perfect condition. This is an extremely rare and scarce piece. This is the first ever Bulgarian Royal medal. This medal was struck on 29th of April 1879 for the ascension of Prince / King Alexander I Batenberg from Germany, who was elected to become the first Bulgarian Royalty after the 500 years of Ottoman Turkish occupation. This bronze medal was minted in no more than 200 pieces and was presented to members of the first parlaiment. This is also actually the first time the Royal Coat of Arms appears on a Bulgarian medal. There were also about 30 or so pieces minted in silver and probably no more than 10 pieces minted in gold for other foreign Royalties. So far there are only about 5 or 6 known pieces to exist of this bronze type among collectors. Extremely scarce and rare piece and taking in mind that it is the first ever Bulgarian medal - it even makes it scarcer. True collector gem.
